Trying something new

Hey everyone! First off, I want to say that my amazing friend Kyra nominated me for the Leibster awards, which is a contest for small blogs and to promote them. I was so going to do it, but I have been extremely busy, because I have been taking part in a performance of Les miserables, and the performance week was last week, and I didn't have any time in the evening to do anything, so I apologise for that.
So, before I start this little blog post, I just want you to check out Kyras blog, which is especially good if you love to get into little DIY projects. So, here's the link http://aeternumsomnium.blogspot.co.uk/
Please, please check her out, she's awesome!

So, what is this post about? It's getting very warm in sylvania, and the dress shop needs some summer clothing to stock for the sylvanians to wear, and, god bless, they don't have any! So, I thought that I would give them a try! I pit may be abit complicated, so I have put the finished product at the top, so you can always refer to that, but it is very hard to put this into words, so leave any questions in the comments and I will answer as fast as I can!

Note: this is a dress for a mother.

Let's start by making a sort of base for the dress.
I have lots if white pillow cases at home, so I will use that as the base. Here is a template which you can print off and cut out or measure out and use, which ever way is best for you. (Personally, I would copy it and put it onto a word document and print it out and cut it, as It is quite hard to copy)

Please note that sylvanians come in all shapes and sizes, so you may need to shorten the dress or make alterations to it, but the instructions are still the same with whatever size you choose.

Also, the first time I did the templates, I forgot to save the draft, so that's why the templates are already cut out.

This is the body of the dress. The whole template is actually the shirt and skirt combined.

Once you have done that, you need to cut out the templates for the sleeve

Now, we can put the dress onto fabric.
Once you have cut out the body of the dress, affix it and make it the right size for a mother sylvanian. I have used Kate periwinkle . Then, sew up the side and turn the dress inside out. Cut off any extra pieces of fabric if there is some.
Once you have done that, you can add any additional stitches. I decided to go with a blanket stich to make a hem, so that the dress doesn't fall apart overtime and fray.
Now, we can do the sleeves!

Wrap the sleeve around the arm and pin it so it looks like this.
Fix some stitches to it, and then do the same for the other side.
VoilĂ ! You have done the base of the dress! Now, depending on the look you want to get you can stop here and keep the base as it is. But, if you want to add some fabric, read on!
To add some fabric, all you need to do is use the base template and apply it to some patterned fabric. Then, sew the fabric to the collar of the base layer. There!

VOILA!

I hoped you enjoyed that tutorial, and you didn't find it to complicated! I really enjoyed making the dress, and I'm sorry if you found it either really basic or hard to follow. Leave any questions in the comments and I will answer ASAP. Anyway, again, sorry for the time gap, I was actually planning a post and then it disappeared!

Lots of hugs and kisses! Emily xxxx
